I love being able to repurpose items, and I today I’d like to share some awesome way to recycle cereal boxes.
Cereal boxes really are easy to repurpose into all kinds of useful items, and they don’t cost anything extra than the cereal you were going to eat anyway!
Even you aren’t “crafty,” these ideas really only take minimal crafting skills, I promise.
For a large project that needs a lot of boxes, I grab a laundry basket or empty recycling bin and store the boxes in my garage until I have what I need.
So, get ready and start saving those cereal and other boxes!

Use as many cereal boxes as you’d like for a custom fit.
Art or school supply caddy.
This is fun because you can cover your caddy with just about anything. I used wrapping paper when I created this DIY recycled boxes desk caddy for my girls’ room. But duct tape is a great way to cover it, too! And duct tape comes in so many awesome colors and designs now, like this! You can really let your imagination run wild.
Keep water bottles within reach and in view by stacking them in magazine files.
Keep plastic-ware lids neatly organized in the cabinet.

Is your kitchen so messy you don’t even want to think about making dinner? Here’s help!
Storage for small books, magazines, scrapbooking paper, or greeting cards.
It’s super easy to make your own magazine holders or file boxes simply by cutting down large cereal boxes. Cover them with contact paper (like this geometric black and white pattern) for a sturdy and elegant office look.
Here’s another idea for the same design – store a curling or flat iron.
When cooled down, of course! 🙂
Make your own photo frame mats.
A great way to use left-over fabric!
Store flip flops and sandals neatly.
Wall art using contact paper from the dollar store.
(But wrapping paper or this farmhouse-inspired scrapbook paper would work great, too.)
And for a really interesting craft project…
They used a pushpin to create the design on the cereal box, then added a low heat light behind it (like this flameless candle) – how easy is that?
So, what are you waiting for? Start saving those boxes and let me see what ways you come up with to recycle cereal boxes!

I have been using this method of repurposing cereal boxes for several years. Our linen closet doubled as storage for our “extras” pantry. So, I initially used cereal boxes to store Campbell’s soup cans bought during the bulk sale. They were stacked so saved a lot of space. Then I switched that to metal magazine holders and used the boxes for keeping the plasticware lids together in the kitchen. We now have a storage room in our new place so I use one shelf for pantry goods. Recently, as I was reorganizing, I found a cereal box that wasn’t being used. I now use that box to hold our extra wax paper, plastic ziplock boxes, and plastic wrap. Amazing what one can find to keep everything in order. The plastic holders for packaged cookies double as organizers in my desk drawer and cutlery drawer for small items. I love organizing!
