Looking for an inexpensive craft idea? Here are 10 clever crafts using plastic spoons including flowers, lamps, Christmas trees, and gorgeous wreaths!
I was at the dollar store recently and saw a display of different colored plastic spoons, and wondered what kinds of fun projects they could be used for. A quick search on Pinterest showed me lots of fun crafts using plastic spoons in all kinds of really neat ways.
Here are some of my favorites.

1. Sweet little flower pot.
This project is so easy! Hot glue plastic spoons to an empty yogurt cup.
Simply paint the cup pink and paint each spoon to look like an Easter egg. Add some fresh Spring flowers for a lovely little flower pot.
2. Flower wreaths.
Sunflower (my favorite flower!).
This is a super simple yet very elegant craft! Glue Yellow plastic spoons onto a cardboard disk. You can use any heavy cardboard you have laying around. Glue yellow and brown pipe cleaners to the center.
Finally, attach a wire hanger to the back. This is a great way to liven up your porch or fence, too!
And if you are looking for more outdoor decor, check out the ideas in this post.

Or this gorgeous Dahlia wreath.
I just love the colors in this one! (But this rainbow-hued flower would be awesome, too!)
And this wreath is created the same way the yellow sunflower is. The spoons are glued to a cardboard disk and the silk flower is glued to the center.
So cute!!!
3. Lamps:
This lamp looks like it came straight out of Ikea.
But you can make this at home, using a large plastic drink jug and a light kit. Note: Make sure your light kit uses low-heat LED lighting or it will melt the plastic.
Β And look at this fun pineapple lamp!
This cute little lampshade is made from a juice bottle, too. The plastic spoons are glued on starting at the bottom and working your way up. The leaves are made from green card stock so they keep their shape.
Again, make sure you use a low-wattage light bulb in this lamp. It would make a perfect lamp for ambient lighting!

For Christmas:
4. Cute little snowmen.
These little snowmen from CraftsbyAmanda are super easy to make. Their faces are drawn on the bowl of the spoons. Felt scarves and hats are added, then they are poked into florist foam-filled pots.
The pots are also painted in bright wintery colors. “Snowball” sparkly white pom-poms are the perfect finishing touch!
These little guys would make perfect gifts for everyone on your Christmas list!
5. Silvery Christmas trees.
These elegant Christmas trees, created by MyHusbandHasTooManyHobbies, use silver plastic utensils!
In this easy project, the spoons are glued onto foam cones to give that classic Christmas tree shape.
The start toppers are actually a package of birthday party plastic magic wands! Get the wands here. How clever!
Flower crafts:
6. Beautiful water lilies.
These beautiful water lilies from FabArtDIY are made from white plastic spoons glued together to form the flower petals. The lily pads are made from plastic bottles.
And the insides of the flowers are also made from strips of plastic bottle, painted yellow!
I just love these flowers and they would look lovely floating in the pool during a backyard party!

7. An elegant tealight holder.
These gorgeous flameless rose tea lights from SmartSchoolHouse are made with fabric flower petals glued onto plastic spoons. A battery-powered tea light is nestled down in the center of each flower to give a lovely soft glow.
These would make a lovely centerpiece on your dining table or scattered across the mantel or coffee table.
And some kiddie crafts.
(After all, I was a children’s librarian for 14 years and we did a lot of crafts at the library!)
8. Ants.
Make these super easy ants from 2 red spoons put together end to end with black pipe cleaners (chenille stems). Then twist more pipe cleaners on to form the ant’s legs.
Add googly eyes for the final touch.
Such a fun, easy, and inexpensive project for the kids to do!
9. Bugs on leaves.
Another super easy project for kids are these fun bugs on leaves. Paint the stem of the spoons brown and the bowl part like bugs.
Don’t forget to give the bugs some eyes. The bugs’ leaves are simply cut out of green felt. Cut a small slit in each leaf and thread a spoon through so that the bugs look like they are sitting on a green leaf.
What a cute and clever idea from SurvivingaTeachersSalary!
10. Daisies.
And finally, a super easy craft from SempreClarisse for Mother’s Day ( just attach to a homemade card)!
These sweet little daisies are made from just 8 white plastic spoon bowls that have been hot glued together with four on top and four on the bottom. Then a yellow yarn pom-pom is attached to the center.
What an easy, yet pretty project!
And finally, a bonus:
And lastly, this is kind of a teaser, because these dragon scale gauntlets I saw on Etsy use metal but I think they are really cool, and I could see substituting plastic spoons for the scales.
I think if someone had the skills to knit or crochet the gauntlet part, it would simply be a matter of gluing on the spoons for the same effect, but alas, I can’t knit or crochet. π But if you try this and it works, please send me a photo – I’d love to see it!
Okay, time to head to the dollar store and stock up on spoons! How about you?

Love your sooon post … someone pinned it and it immediately caught my eye because the bright green flower held by a man in red is my photo! That’s my brother and his wife mad that flower:). I am fine with you using my photo, just curious how you came across it?
Hello Kristina! I have seen this photo many, many times on Pinterest. It is very popular! Please tell your sister-in-law how much I love it. π It is so bright and colorful! She did a terrific job! The source I found it on (and I linked back to) is this: http://www.toocraft.com/post_plastic-spoons-flower-crafts_59374/ Did she post it to a blog or anything? I’d be happy to link back to her if so or give her credit.
Very creative. I had never thought about using spoons in so many different ways. I look forward to seeing future posts.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Michele! π
