Now that the Christmas decorations are down, is your front door looking a little blah? Brighten it up with this inexpensive frosty blue and white DIY winter wreath! Do your kiddos love Frozen? I’m sure Elsa and Anna would love this wintry wreath, too!
Don’t you get a feeling of let down and emptiness once all the Christmas decor is down? If you’re like me, your front door has probably been decorated since September. First with Fall decor, then Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. And now that the Christmas decorations are down, nothing. A boring, plain old front door.
Here in Florida, even though we have a cold snap occasionally, it’s pretty warm here in January. And I, for one, would like to keep the winter coolness a bit longer! 😉
Well, here is an easy, inexpensive way to brighten up your front doors for a few more weeks, especially if you aren’t in Florida and the weather outside is cold and gray.
I found all of the supplies for my wreath at Dollar Tree, so for under $20 I was able to make 2 wreaths, one for each of my double front doors. Sweet!

Winter wreath directions:
The decorative mesh is really wide and thin. So, in order to make the color more vibrant and to make it easier to work with, I folded the mesh in half as I worked.
I tied the end of the mesh securely onto the back of the wreath.
Next, I simply wrapped the blue mesh loosely around the wreath, leaving a space at the bottom for the bow. Again, I tied it to the wreath to hold it in place.
Then I did the same thing with the white mesh, wrapping it next to the blue sections.
I added a fluffier section of white at the bottom as an anchor for the flower picks and large bow.
To make my winter wreath worthy of Elsa and Anna from Frozen, I wanted to add some “bling.” Hence, the gem ribbons. I haven’t seen these before, so they were a fun find!
To attach the blue gem ribbon, I used my glue gun. I wrapped the blue gem ribbon in the gaps on the wreath.
For extra pizzazz, I cut 3×3 pieces of the diamond gem ribbon.
And attached them here and there in the middle sections of the blue gems, again using my glue gun.
Va-va-voom!
Then, I made a nice big bow out of blue burlap. I added a strip of diamond ribbon around the center for more sparkle, and attached it to the white mesh with hot glue.
Finally I added the floral picks. I really liked these because the berries looked “frosted,” and it also looked like icicles were on them, too. Nice and wintry!
I added a strip of blue mesh as a hanger to my finished wreath. (In the supply picture, you’ll see a roll of blue and white polka-dot ribbon. I was going to use it for the hanger, but I liked the mesh better.)

However, since I’ll never see it like this here in Florida, I couldn’t resist editing my picture to give it an even more wintry effect! 🙂

By the way, here is the easy way to make a decorative bow.
Cut a length of burlap ribbon.
Lay it flat and fold down the ends so they cross in the middle.
Where they meet in the middle, gather the pieces together.
Tie them with a piece of matching thread. (I used a strand of burlap from the ribbon.)
Add a strip in the middle. You can use a piece from the same ribbon or a contrasting color. I used a strip of my diamond ribbon. Attach the ends of the strip in the back with fabric glue, hot glue, or even a couple of stitches.
To add the decorative look to the ends of the ribbon, fold the end in half, with the crease facing out. Cut the ribbon at an angle towards the crease, from the bottom outside edge in.
Now, your ribbon has a decorative V-cut, which also helps the ribbon from fraying.
So, shake those Winter blues by making this frosty DIY winter wreath. It’s a great way to brighten up your front door for the rest of Winter!
