So, you’ve finally found all the places you stored your Christmas decorations from last year. But, when you open the boxes, all you see is a jumbled up mess. Makes you feel about as Christmas-y as Mr. Scrooge or the Grinch, right?
Well, here are some terrific and inexpensive ways to organize Christmas decorations once and for all!
How to organize Christmas decorations – The lights.
It can be so tempting to just wad up all those lights and dump them into a box, but it really doesn’t take much time to organize them neatly. Honest!

Wrap the light strands around pieces of stiff cardboard.
Afraid the lights will get broken in a box? Wind them onto tension rods and hang the tension rods in your storage box. Store ornaments or less delicate items underneath.

Protect those delicate ornaments by using egg cartons.
It’s easy to protect and stack fragile ornaments using plastic cups glued to sheets of cardboard.

Invest in some wreath boxes.
These help keep dirt and critters out of your wreaths. They can be stacked or hung, too.
I hang up my wreaths on plant hangers to store them.

Hang them up using pipes. Protect your wreaths with garbage bags or garment bags.

Take the time to label pieces of garland that fit in specific places, like the ones just long enough for the mantel or along the banisters. It’s easy to label them using bread tags and then store them in clear plastic bins.
How to organize Christmas decorations – Gift wrap and bows.
To stop wrapping paper from unrolling, cut a toilet paper tube down one side and put it on the wrapping paper roll.
Use a garment bag to hang rolls of wrapping paper.
Use a plastic drawers to organize bows, gift tags, and other supplies.
Or use a cardboard magazine box or cut-down cereal box.

How to STORE those Christmas decorations.
Hang the boxes in your garage.

Store them in sturdy plastic tubs made with seasonal colors, like red and green (or black and orange for Halloween) or ones that are clear so you can easily see what’s inside. These are in the storage space underneath my stairs.
