We live in the South and LOVE biscuits! Because it’s a rule down here – you have to love biscuits! 😉 But they don’t exactly scream “health food.” So, I tweaked a favorite recipe to be healthier, and it tastes just as good as the full-fat version. So, here it is: low-fat 7-Up biscuits.
These delicious yet low-fat 7-Up biscuits are so easy to make, even on days when you’re short on time. I always have low-fat Bisquick on hand, as well as low-fat sour cream and Brummel and Brown spread, so when I want to make these, I just grab a single bottle of 7-Up or Sprite at the store (because I am a Diet Coke girl) and I am ready to go! You could choose diet soda, but I am more concerned about watching fat intake, so I just used regular Sprite, because that is what I grabbed (instead of 7-Up) just to show I pretty much tweaked EVERY ingredient in this recipe!
Here are the ingredients for my low-fat 7-Up biscuits:
2 cups of low-fat Bisquick baking mix
1/2 cup of light sour cream
1/2 cup of 7-Up or Sprite
1/2 cup of Brummel and Brown spread, melted
a 9×9 pan
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450°.
Mix the sour cream into your biscuit mix. It will look crumbly:
Next, mix in the 7-UP. The dough will be pretty sticky.
Sprinkle some Bisquick onto your counter and knead and fold the dough until coated with baking mix and not sticky to the touch. Pat dough out to about a 1/2 inch high.
Cut the biscuits. You can use a round biscuit or cookie cutter or even an empty (clean) can (from canned beans or veggies). I prefer using a glass drinking glass because I like the size and it cuts nicely.
Pour melted spread in a 9-inch square pan. You can put the spread in the pan and melt it in the oven for a few minutes, but I find it is just as easy to melt it in a small glass dish in the microwave and pour it in the pan.
Place cut biscuits on top of the melted butter and bake for 12-15 minutes or until brown.
Look at these! They come out golden brown, moist, and DELICIOUS.
You’d never guess these were low-fat 7-up biscuits, now would you?

I have never heard of making biscuits with actual soda but these look delicious and simple to try. Do you have any suggestions on alternatives to the Brummel and Brown spread? I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that up here in Canada.
Hmmm, I don’t know a brand offhand, but in looking at the Brummel & Brown container, it shows the spread is 35% vegetable oil & 10% nonfat yogurt. It has 0g of trans fat per serving, and total calories are 45 calories per tbsp. I hope that helps 🙂
